“I'm really impressed with the analysis. I've been using AutoCrit and ProWritingAid and neither identified anywhere near the issues that The Final Editor did. Those other products highly rated my manuscript, but this analysis found issues they didn't.”

“I'm really impressed with the checklist. I've already been able to apply the feedback and I see a noticeable improvement in my writing already.”

Everything you need to find what readers will catch.

Structural notes on the draft you already wrote. Your voice stays yours.

Find the issues: Plot, pacing, and character.

  • Logical holes and contradictions you stop seeing
  • Characters who wait instead of choosing
  • Scenes that drag, rush, or never pay off

Keep your voice: We are editors, not ghostwriters.

  • No rewritten sentences
  • No generated scenes or dialogue
  • No creative decisions made for you

A revision plan: A checklist, not a new manuscript.

  • Each note says why it matters
  • Real citations from your manuscript
  • You decide what to fix, in your own words

Private by default: Your draft never becomes training data.

  • Encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Never shared, never used to train models
  • Deleted after analysis, on request

16 categories of developmental feedback

Upload. Analyze. Fix.

A full-manuscript read, then a revision plan you control.

  1. Upload: Send the full manuscript in .docx, .txt, .md, or other formats.
  2. Analyze: Structural models read the whole book across 16 categories.
  3. Fix: A prioritized checklist of real issues. No generated text, ever.

What a traditional editor would charge

A developmental edit of a 120,000-word manuscript costs about $3,900 from a traditional editor. The Final Editor reads the same manuscript for $119, paid once. The editor's price is 3.25 cents a word, the average of the Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 fiction developmental editing rate of 3 to 3.5 cents. The survey details are in our cost article.

Quick answers

Who is The Final Editor for?

Any fiction writer with a finished draft. Writers use The Final Editor before querying agents, before self-publishing, before sending pages to beta readers or an editor, and between revisions when they aren't sure what to fix next.

What happens after I revise? How do re-checks work?

Your first report is your Foundation analysis. Once you revise, upload the new draft as a re-check, for $39. Instead of starting from scratch, we read the new draft against your last report: every earlier issue is marked resolved, improved, or not addressed yet, with a note on what changed. We also flag any problems your revisions created, plus new issues identified now that the bigger ones are fixed. Your checkmarks carry over, you see your score change, and every analysis run stays on your Projects page so you can track the book from draft to draft.

Is my manuscript safe?

Absolutely. Your manuscript is encrypted in transit and at rest. We never share your work with anyone, and we can delete it immediately upon request.

How long does the analysis take?

Analysis can take a few hours, dependent on manuscript length. You'll receive an email when your checklist is ready, as well as a status in the Projects tab.

What file formats do you accept?

We support .docx (Microsoft Word), .txt (plain text), .md (Markdown), .rtf, and .odt files.

Will this rewrite my book or generate text?

No. We never generate or rewrite a single word. The Final Editor reads your manuscript and analyzes it structurally across 16 categories like plot holes, pacing, and character agency. The output is a diagnostic checklist, not generated prose. You decide what to fix, in your own voice.
